Working as a chef at Maplewell Hall School, I cook daily for students who are autistic or have ADHD. Over time, I've noticed a powerful shift: when we remove additives and ultra-processed foods, their energy improves, their moods settle and they're simply... calmer.

That realisation sparked something in me - a mission to raise awareness about how food affects our children's brains, behaviour and well-being.

Because when you see the change, you can't unsee it.

FIVE KEY RECIPES TO SUPPORT FOCUS AND CALM

WHAT DO I DO?

As a professional chef working with neurodivergent children, I've seen how food affects the brain - especially for those with ADHD.

It's not about fads or diets. It's about feeding the brain what it needs to thrive: unrefined, natural foods that support focus, balance blood sugar and reduce inflammation.

This isn't about perfection - just five smart swaps that can make a world of difference.

Let me show you how.

REAL FOOD = MORE BALANCE

(Because neurodiverse brains thrive on food the body actually understands)

1.

Once you understand that food can influence mood, focus and even meltdowns - you can't unknow that.

Supporting a child with ADHD or autism often feels like a rollercoaster. But what's on their plate can either help steady the ride... or make it bumpier..

2.

When you start feeding their body what it actually needs - it changes everything.

Balanced blood sugar. Calmer afternoons. Fewer battles over food. You don't need a degree in nutrition - just the right swaps and a bit of guidance from someone who's seen it work.

3.

Imagine breaking free from the fake foods, flavour enhancers and sugar-laced snacks that make it all worse - and replacing them with calming, real ingredients that support their brain and gut.

It's not perfect every day. But it's a hell of a lot easier when they're not constantly wired, crtashing, or overwhelmed.

The UNREFINED CHEF makes it easier for you to make the change.

How Can Food support ADHD?

Food can't fix ADHD - but it can help you manage it

Do you notice your child struggles with focus, mood swings, or low energy during the school day?

Do they crash after lunch or feel wired after snacks?

Are you overwhelmed by all the conflicting advise about food and ADHD?

Do you worry about the long-term impact of additives, refined sugar and processed snacks on your child's mental health?

Have you tried everything else - from therapies to medication - but feel something's still missing?

Yes food really can help - and it starts with a few smart swaps

  • Support calmer moods and fewer outbursts

  • Boost sustained energy without sugar crashes

  • Reduce brain fog and improve mental clarity

  • Help regulate sleep and digestion (gut brain link!)

  • Lower the impact of artificial colours and preservatives

  • Nourish a healthier microbiome - linked to emotional balance and executive function

Imagine being able to make one packed lunch, one evening meal, one

after-school snack - and knowing it's helping rather than hindering your child's focus and emotional balance

That's what this movement is about. I'm not here to fix ADHD. But I am here to support it - with food that works with the body, not against it

Creating healthy eating habits that lead to lasting well-being and positive relationships with food.

WHY DO I DO THIS?

Because I've seen what happens when we feed the brain real food.

Because every time we ditch the additives and go unrefined, we unlock calmer moods, better focus and brighter energy - especially in young people with ADHD and autism.

Because I want to build a community that believes food is part of the solution.

By sharing what I've learned, I hope you'll see it too - how unrefined, natural food can boost focus, settle moods and nourish the nervous system.

Real, food is the foundation of calm, clarity and focus.

TOTALLY UNREFINED LIFE

10 steps to make the switch - the real way :

THAT'S RIGHT - I'M WRITING A BOOK!!

Minor changes in your eating habits lead to major changes in your health.

I've seen it time and time again - supporting ADHD doesn't always need medication or massive changes. It can start with swapping just one food for another.

Choose foods that nourish your brain, not drain it. Even something as simple as ditching artificial sweeteners or refined carbs can lead to more stable moods, better concentration and less burnout - for both kids and adults.

Try this:

Swap fizzy drinks packed with additives for natural alternatives like Karma Cola or a chilled herbal infusion. One small switch. One giant leap for your brain

HOW WILL YOU BENEFIT FROM JOINING MY COMMUNITY?

Support, not perfection. Strategies, not judgement.

With my background in medicinal cookery and years cooking for students with ADHD and autism, I've built this community to be a space for real change - not food fads.

Whether you're a parent, teacher, carer, or navigating this for yourself, I share realistic tools, brain-supportive recipes and unrefined swaps to help you build calm, focus and connection - one meal at a time.

Food that fuels calm, not chaos.

My mission is simple: help families break the the cycle of sugar crashes, additive overload and processed habits that ramp up hyperactivity and burnout focus.

I share tools and recipes that support the gut-brain connection, reduce food-triggered mood swings and gently steer eating habits back to balance.

Because every calmer mealtime is a win-and every focused moment is worth celebrating.

"4 of us recently had a great day with Trevor. He designed a menu for a three course meal and guided us through its preparation. It was a really fun day. We all learnt new skills, nutritional facts and enjoyed the meal we’d prepared at the end of the day. We have no hesitation in recommending Trevor’s cookery classes."

"If you are looking for quality service and food, chef Trevor is your guy! My parents recently celebrated their 30th anniversary, and we can't say enough how amazing Trevor was on the night of the dinner. He brought along Nicky to help, who was also so lovely and warm. She set up the table, adding lovely touches of roses too. We were also able to watch him work as the venue was open plan. The cleanliness and organisation is spot on! If you truly want a unique experience for your party, you will love his service. It felt like he was part of the family, too. We had an amazing, unforgettable and fun evening. We will always be grateful for that. Thanks chef!"

"Trevor was most impressive, flexible and an excellent chef. He brought everything imaginable with him and a couple of support staff who were just as professional . They made my birthday lunch a memorable treat. Well done Chef, you made my day a truly special one."

THE UNREFINED CHEF APPROACH IS DIFFERENT? HERE'S WHY?

Food isn't just fuel - it's information.

It speaks directly to the brain, shapes behaviour, supports clarity, and helps reduce overwhelm.

For children and adults with ADHD, removing ultra-processed ingredients can calm the nervous system and sharpen focus - without needing to follow a "diet."

Movement matters too, but when you get the food right, energy, motivation, and balance follow. You don't have to chase wellness you just have to feed it the right stuff.

That's what the switch challenges all about.

Better moods, clear reminds - it starts with small food changes

You don't need perfection. Just a few smart switches can make all the difference.
